MSWA FUTURE CHAMPIONS SERIES




REGISTRATION LINK TO ALL FUTURE CHAMPIONS EVENTS IN 2024-25 SEASON

Objective:
 

  • To provide a positive competitive wrestling experience for beginner & novice wrestlers
  • The MSWA defines a Beginner & Novice Wrestler as someone that is in their first three (3) years of wrestlingwhether that is only participating in practices or by also going to competitions, dual meets, or tournaments.

Rules: 

  • Wrestling should be completed within 2 hours of wrestling start for each age group.
  • Singlets or very tight-fitting t-shirts/shorts required. 
  • Wrestlers MUST weigh-in wearing singlets and/or t-shirts/shorts
  • Madison System:  Wrestlers will be grouped in 4-5 person brackets to wrestle in a round-robin bracket. All bouts will be three (3), 1-minute periods unless a pin or tech fall occurs.
  • All events will have certified officials to ensure the safety of all and to ensure FUN!
  • NO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS OR 15-YEAR-OLDS

Awards: Medals for Top 4 (All wrestlers except for MSWA Future Championships).

MSWA Future Championships

The MSWA Future Championships is a program only for those wrestlers that have attended two (2) Future Champions Tournaments during the 2024 - 2025 season.

NOTES

***Note regarding Future Champion wrestlers, once a wrestler qualifies for the MSWA Youth State Tournament, wrestlers are no longer eligible to compete in the Future Champion Series (which is designed for beginner and experienced wrestlers only).  Wrestlers are considered advanced once they qualify for the MSWA Youth State Tournament.

***Note please make sure that you check your League Schedules prior to registering for an event. If you register for an event but cannot attend, transfers, credits, or refunds will not be issued.

***Be sure that you are registering for the right event.  Some Future Champions events are held the same weekend - but on a different day and at the same location as a qualifier for the Youth State Tournament.

The MSWA Future Championships is a series finale for those wrestlers who have attended two (2) Future Champions Tournaments during the 2024-25 season. This year, the MSWA's Future Championships Finale will be held at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center in Salisbury, Md. on Feb. 9, 2025.

Online Registrations:

  • Online registrations are non-refundable.
    • Make sure you check your schedule prior to registering for one of the tournaments.
    • If an event is cancelled,  you will received a credit towards a future MSWA event

Entry Deadline: 

  • Registration is limited to the first 300 entries received

USA WRESTLING CARD REQUIREMENTS

A USAW Membership is required for all events. 

A Limited Folkstyle Athlete, Full Athlete, or High Performance Athlete USAW Membership is required for this series. Memberships expire on 8/31 of each year. Limited Folkstyle Athlete Memberships are only valid for MSWA Future Champions and MSWA Youth State Tournament Series events. 

All Coaches Must Have A Current USAW Wrestling Leader Membership to be on the mat at the State Tournament.  If a Coach does not have a USAW Wrestling Leader Card, they will not be permitted access to the mats during the tournament. To get access & FREE ENTRY to the tournament; Coaches must present their State ID & USAW Card showing that they have a USAW Wrestling Leader Membership at the door.

MODIFIED NFHS RULES

National Federation of State High School Association scoring rules with USA Wrestling modifications will govern the tournament. These USA Wrestling modifications include the following:
  • Headgear is MANDATORY for all competitors.
  • Mouth guards are MANDATORY for wrestlers that have braces.
  • Rest time in-between matches is a minimum of 15 minutes.
  • A match cannot be started when a wrestler does not have a coach present.
  • The three-quarter nelson with leg hook is LEGAL in USA Wrestling Folkstyle Events.
  • The double arm bar with sit out will be considered potentially dangerous.
USA Wrestling rules governing ages, weights, and match time will take precedence where applicable.
